I’ve been reading articles from American Thinker for a while…

Yes it’s a conservative publication.

Since I’m conservative leaning, I’ve been interested in what other conservative’s thoughts may be.

Because Twitter, Facebook, Google and others have made a habit of, as Mark Zuckerberg recently told Joe Rogan, Significantly reducing article views… The places where one can see what conservatives are thinking have become increasingly rare.

This is why freedom of speech is such an important thing. We should be able to see and read anything, then be adult enough to choose what is factual and what is hyperbole.

Twitter had become an echo chamber of vitriol and extreme leftist ideologies so I left. Facebook had become a Russian Nesting Doll of weekly privacy updates that required an inordinate amount of time on my part to manage. How many privacy updates or resetting of my privacy settings should I have to endure per week to see the latest cat photo or “Curated News” feed? For this reason, I left Facebook many years ago.

We all know Google had forsaken it founding motto, “Don’t be Evil” for a more progressive motto of sell everyone to everyone else, privacy or accuracy be damned.

So, I read a fair number of articles from their sources. I don’t pay for any subscriptions because what’s on one publication behind a pay wall is probably available on another site for free.

American Thinker had been known to me for interesting takes on events. Andrea Widburg is a writer whose articles on American Thinker I’ve found particularly engaging. Much of her writing is light, gets the point across, and often there’s a certain wryness that helps a bitter truth go down easier.

I’ve enjoyed most of the posts on American Thinker over the past 4-5 years. I don’t recall when I stumbled up them or when I became a regular reader.

Lately however, the tone of American Thinker has changed for the worse. A recent article Why are Children Coming down with Monkeypox? By Mark A. Hewitt is a prime, if extreme example of the tone I’m referring to.

I can understand the author’s outrage at attempts to have pedophiles normalized. I can understand the author’s fear, or annoyance, at the LGBT community at large for fueling the monkeypox spread. I totally get why the author is pissed off and annoyed at the endless messaging about LGB and specifically Trans people and their endless silly pronouns.

My personal thoughts on pedophiles are that they should be shot if found guilty, possibly after brutal disfiguring torture. I’m very pissed at the LGBT community for not stepping up to do what they can to curb the spread of monkeypox.

In these very pages I’ve written my thoughts, here, here, here, here, and here, and elsewhere in this blog. The Hewitt article above, for me personally, is beyond the pale. He draws conclusions that demonstrate the kind of religious zealotry the Taliban is known for.

I’ll defend Mr. Hewitt’s right to speak, but I don’t have to read his material. Had he done 30 seconds of research by going to the CDC.gov website and looked up smallpox and monkeypox then read and comprehended the associated articles he’d have realized that both have pretty much the same transmission routes. As I’ve said elsewhere in this blog it looks like the Smallpox vaccine also covers Monkeypox.

Monkeypox What to Know About Vaccines Tests and Treatment 1024x536 1

Mr. Hewitt jumped to the conclusion, that has been, to some extent reinforced by the media, suggesting that monkeypox can only be spread via sex. In point of fact, smallpox and monkeypox can be spread by prolonged contact such as kissing or cuddling. Or coming into contact with bedsheets or other items contaminated with secretions from one of the pox pustules.

What child doesn’t heedlessly jump into their parent’s arms if they’re upset or have a boo boo? Would Mr. Hewitt suggest that a child getting smallpox from a parent had obviously been sexually molested? Would he say the same of a child who got a staph infection from a parent recently in the hospital?

Anyone who has ever had a child in their house knows that keeping a child out of specific areas such as dirty laundry, or the parents bed or even the household pet’s bed can be challenging. Additionally whatever is on a child’s hands inevitably ends up all over them and other nearby items.

I’m not discounting Mr. Hewitt’s entire theory about potential pedophiles having access to children. I do dispute his apparent assertion that all cases of children contracting monkeypox, are evidence of child molestation.

The problem for me is that it’s not just Mr. Hewitt’s article. This tone, in a more subdued fashion seems to be permeating the entire publication.

It is for that reason, American Thinker is off my personal reading list. Right next to Twitter, Facebook, and many services provided by Google. I choose to be selective in how I spend my time. I choose not to waste any of it on extremists of any persuasion. Left, Right, or Religious.

Perhaps the editorial staff of American Thinker should send out some style/content guides that inform their contributors to stick to facts in articles, and present opinion in their blog area. They probably won’t, in this regard American Thinker appears to have become like every other publication. Money and Advertising clicks versus measured, reasoned, dissemination, or discussion, of verifiable facts.

It’s too bad, I’ll miss Andrea Widburg’s articles.

Anthony Fauci announces his retirement (Yawn)

I have to point out that he announced he was retiring at the end of Biden’s term.

Now he’s saying he’ll retire in December. Does that mean Biden is stepping aside? Probably not.

Although it would be one way for Biden to leave Kamala Harris holding the bag! Aside from the fact it would be really bad for the country, it might be interesting to watch her cackle her way through the remaining two years of the Presidential Term. Amusing only if I was watching the whole mess from high orbit because I’m pretty sure the nukes would fly just to shut her up.

Predictably the GOP is posturing.

“We will still summon you before Congress, You’ll answer our questions, blah blah blah.”

Sure I’ll believe that when I see it.

Fauci isn’t going to spend a day in front of congress, in a court, or anywhere except on a beach drinking fruity tropical drinks. Hell, he may have enough money to buy Epstein’s Island.

That’s a scary thought. I’m not sure I’m ready for a real life Island of Dr. Moreau.

Everyone knows it. While Rand Paul may be super pissed that Fauci evaded most every question asked. It’s doubtful that Rand Paul will be able to generate enough of a coalition in Congress to actually have hearings.

Honestly, I wish the GOP would put their money where their mouth is. Stop bloviating and start doing their job. Not that I’m holding my breath…

No Apple, It’s not you. It’s me

See, I have this personality flaw. I expect shit to work consistently and reliably.

I’ve got 3 pairs of HomePod speakers in this house. 4 HomePod Mini’s and 2 of the standard HomePods. I’ve got an iPad, and iPhone, a watch, 2 Apple TVs, AirPod Pros, Oh and my MacBook Pro.

On the matter of the MacBook Pro, this is my old computer because my new one was stolen while I was trying to return it to you because it was defective right out of the box.

Of Course, YOU Apple, can’t be bothered to help me out. And because your guy in sales had me flush everything and reset the computer to factory conditions, I can’t even track the machine to whoever stole it. I could have, had you not told me the procedure was to make sure the computer was wiped and disconnected from my account… So Thanks a TON!

FedEx screwed me, and Dollar General (The FedEx drop-off point) screwed me so now I’m paying for a computer that I don’t have and I’m sure the fucker that stole it is just happy as hell to have a dumb white fuck paying for their fly computer. Given that they’re probably listening to nothing but RAP I doubt they’ll notice that the sound quality is shit until the audio shuts down completely or the computer shorts out completely and burns their home down. (Hopefully with them trapped inside.)

The police say they have no evidence that the computer was stolen they’re just listing it as a missing package so I can’t even file a proper police report.

Okay, I get it nobody is at fault. Except of course the fucker that stole the damn package. Oh and by the way I’m pretty sure I know exactly who the person is. It was the person who “Scanned” the package but somehow that scan didn’t actually get recorded by FedEx. But without proof I can’t make allegations.

So I’ll suck it up, pay for the damn computer, and continue to use my old machine. You know, the one that almost immediately went from 6 hours of battery life down to 3 hours of battery life after your wonderful OS upgrade called Monterey… Yeah, Thanks for that.

Before you go into the bullshit about batteries having a limited lifespan. Yeah, I know that. So why does the battery still say it’s got 94% of its charge capacity, and is in good health? Why did the battery drain begin literally the day after the Monterey upgrade?

The thing is, I’d probably be able to let it go except you Apple keep getting in my face. HomePods randomly report they’re not available. Then after considerable screwing around with them they magically come back. The Big HomePods reported yesterday that they weren’t on the same network as my iPhone. Wrong! The Router said the iPhone and HomePods had ip addresses and were pingable on the network.

Turns out… only one of the HomePods had a problem but since they’re a paired set well, the only way to sort it out was to ungroup them, then reset the one that was complaining and then regroup them.

This after the same set of HomePods asking me 3 days running for the passwords to my apple accounts and both of them working just fine as the sound system for the AppleTV while I was watching movies. Oh and just as a point, these HomePods had been set up from the phone they said wasn’t on the same network. Oddly, the other HomePod minis on the same network where fully functional.

Today, I thought I’d put a TV show on my computer while I was doing some other stuff. You’d think this wouldn’t be a problem except that the Apple library doesn’t show the second season of the TV show but Apple TV+ does.

My Archer collection is horribly screwed up, apparently because I had the temerity to purchase a multi season bundle. Not ONE of the episodes in that bundle has ever indicated that it’s been played, so if I wanted to watch I had to search through and remember what I’d already seen.

It gets better! I’m watching the show that I wanted to watch after finding it in AppleTV+ “up next”. I’m using my office HomePod Mini’s for sound and for no apparent reason, the right speaker simply shuts off.

The speaker is on the network, the router shows it talking to someone. But all the audio is coming through the left speaker. It was working just fine, nothing changed in the configuration other than time passing.

Restart the computer, power down the HomePods power up again, and things worked for 5 minutes, then boom, the right speaker is off again. What’s really cool is that if I touch the right speaker’s interface it starts playing music. While the left speaker is still playing the audio from the TV show. So much for them being a stereo pair!

Just FYI Apple this kind of shit is exactly why I dumped Windows and PCs.

Either be broken, don’t work at all, or work as advertised. I swear to God I unplug or reset at least one HomePod once a week because it suddenly says it can’t connect to the internet, or it’s taking too long to contact a device on the network, or it’s forgotten a password, or, or, or, or.

The point is, all of this crap just happens randomly. I’m not changing network settings. I’m not changing passwords. I’m just walking into the house or the room and shit mysteriously isn’t working.

The Homekit application on the phone is next to useless. The HomeKit on the computer is worse and that’s frankly inexcusable. You’ve got all the competing power of the MacBook at your disposal for diagnostic capabilities and you send the user to their iPhone or iPad for help that is nothing more than mental masturbation that literally has never solved a HomeKit or HomePod problem.

Instead you leave the user guessing about what could possibly be the trouble. Additionally, your support pages are next to useless because they provide no answers, and often not even decent steps to troubleshoot.

So Apple it’s not you. It’s the phase of the moon, sunspots, the router, the internet connection, or anything that doesn’t point to you having put out shitty software.

Just once it would be fucking nice to hear you admit you have a problem.

Here’s a thought… Stop dicking around with gender confused narcissists, and filling diversity quotas, and do us all a favor.

Hire people that can do the job. You know, good software engineers, and testing people.

By the way I’m probably not going to be buying another Apple Watch. I’ve discovered that I prefer a watch that works without recharging and at $1000 for one of your ruggedized watches. I’d rather wait a few years and spend $6000 on a nice Omega.

I’m probably not going to upgrade my iPad and I’m not likely to be buying a new iPhone in the near future.

As to buying a new Apple MacBook Pro… Well, I’ve already purchased one of those, even though apparently I donated it to some thieving motherfucker at your direction. I’ve reported that serial number to you Apple as stolen and had some expectation that when that SN popped up on the network you’d maybe report it to the Police.

That hope is fading fast.

So if Apple won’t report stolen equipment to the Police and is no longer interested in producing equipment “That Just Works” I am really having a hard time seeing why I should pay a premium price for Apple products.

In this world, perhaps it make more sense to just buy the same shit that everyone else has and replace it when it’s a year old, stolen, broken, or comes in a new color.

(Like Apple did with the HomePod minis last year… Nothing new except a color change, really Apple? Is that all you’ve got left?)

How’s that going to work for your Green Agenda? Apple can recycle their stuff all day long but if fewer folks are buying their products it’s not going to matter much is it?

I can buy a new android phone for $99 at Walmart and throw it away next year. I could do that for 10 years and just start to come up on the price of an iPhone.

$300 for a Windows Laptop and it’s the same equation.

$69 for an Alexa, or whatever and I still have the same shitty performance, connectivity to my smart house, and a speaker.

That’s going to do a lot of landfills good across the country isn’t it?

So no Apple it’s not you. I’m just tired of paying a premium price for mediocrity.

Believe me Apple you’ve become mediocre.

Now where did I put those speakers that I can plug directly into my USB Hub?

Maybe I’ll put one of these HomePod minis in the kitchen and another one in the garage. No point in expecting them to work as stereo speakers is there?

Oh Brittney!

Brittney Griner has been sentenced to 9 years in a Russian jail.

OMG! The Horror!

Yeah, right!

The story is here

Griner, had a prescription from a US doctor for medical Cannabis. However what she was carrying was a vape pen with hash oil cartridges.

Yeah, Hash Oil is cannabis so technically she was carrying what the doctor’s note said she should have been carrying.

That being said, Cannabis is illegal in Russia. She must have known that. Her excuse was essentially, “I forgot that was in my bag.

I’m sure everyone in the Russian court rolled their eyes when she said that. I know I would have.

Every country that you travel to has different laws.

It pays to make sure that you aren’t prescribed or carrying anything in your bags or on your person that is illegal in a country you plan to visit.

I checked that my BP medication was in fact legal when I went to the Netherland Antilles a few years back. It was entirely likely that the medication was legal, checking to be sure took exactly 1 minute and I did that 4 weeks before my departure. The Netherlands Consulate was very kind and helpful. At the same time I also made sure that I’d been vaccinated against any diseases endemic to that area of the Caribbean.

If you’re traveling internationally you must adhere to the local laws and regulations. Most countries make zero exceptions for Americans. I suspect this in part, because so many Americans are so poorly behaved when they visit other countries.

Helpful hint my fellow Americans. We’re guests, we should act like it. We should not act like we’re above the law, because uhh we’re not!

Anyway. This lady was carrying an illegal substance into the country. It doesn’t matter what the quantity was, or the form it took, or anything else. The questions are:

  1. Is the substance illegal?
  2. Did the person bring the substance into the country.

Item 1 is true. Brittney Griner admitted that item 2 was true. Therefore she’s guilty of breaking Russian law, and she has been sentenced according to that law.

Seems like a pretty cut & dried case. I honestly don’t see what all the fuss is about.

I’m sure that Brittney thought since she was a basketball “Star” she didn’t have to obey silly Russian laws. “What to they know anyway?

It must be hard for her to deal with the fact that in Russia she’s not accorded special privileges.

Well Brittney, not all countries are as insane as America has become.

Here’s your prize… 9 and a half years. At least they gave you 6 months off your sentence for time served!

I’m sorry that I can’t muster much concern or outrage over this lady’s punishment.

Little Brittney is going to learn something about real oppression in a Russian prison. From what I understand, the Russians don’t mess around. On the bright side, she will probably learn Russian while she’s in prison so she may have a new career as a translator at the UN when she gets out.

I have to wonder what would happen if I was returning to the United States with ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine in my bag after having traveled in Africa or South America.

Both of those drugs are available without a prescription in many areas of the world, because of their utility and commonplace usage. Would I be detained at the US border and thrown into jail for smuggling?

There was a time when I could say without hesitation that I wouldn’t be. But these days… In the age of COVID? Honestly, I’d expect to be whisked away to the gulag in Washington D.C. and placed in a small cell with the Jan 6th protesters.

After all the CDC and FDA have said these drugs are forbidden.

The Biden administration is involved trying to negotiate a prisoner trade for Brittney.

If I was her I’d be very worried about that. 9 and a half years could turn into 20 years, the way this administration bungles things.

Perhaps if we modeled our drug responses after Russia we wouldn’t be drowning in fentanyl, meth, crack, heroin, and whatever the hell else is being imported.

I know, it’s a crazy idea. Actual punishment for breaking a law???

Get outta here!

Finally!

18 months or longer after the news broke of Hunter Biden’s laptop, the DOJ has actually done their job. They’re investigating the laptop and Hunter Biden.

One could assume that there’s now enough pressure to force the DOJ to take action.

I suspect darker motives.

We went from, “The Laptop is Russian disinformation,” and memory holing the information contained on it.

To, “The laptop appears to really be Hunter’s.”

To, “Hunter is being investigated for tax fraud.”

To actually investigating the data on the laptop that appears to implicate Joe Biden being somehow involved in Hunter’s business dealings.

In part, this investigation may have been caused by hackers busting into Hunter’s cloud accounts and then spreading the information around. But I think it’s more than that.

I think that Joe has outlived his usefulness and now the laptop serves as a convenient way to dispose of Joe.

This will allow the appearance of the Democratic Party actually doing something constructive. They’ll have the opportunity to say to the American people, “See we don’t tolerate corruption,” while elevating Kamala to the Presidency.

The timing is nice. If they pull this off before the midterms they might be able to win back some of the voters they’re losing, and pull their asses out of the fire. They’ll also be able to parlay dumping Joe over corruption charges into some legitimacy for the Jan 6th committee.

Think about it. “If we dumped Joe, and he was from our party. Of course our investigation into Trump and the insurrection is legitimate. We wouldn’t lie to you.”

Uh Huh.

It’s what I’d do. Put a woman of color into the Oval Office. You win the female voters, the pro abortion voters, and theoretically the person of color votes all at the same time.

The Republicans can still be painted as evil, and the “Red Wave” hits the rocks before it really starts. The Democratic Party retains their power while maintaining a sock puppet in office who is remarkably even less popular than Joe.

Joe gets to retire. Hunter goes to jail, then is released after a few months to house arrest. Trump is mired in court cases, a little blood is spilled to appease the American People and at least in theory, all is right with the world.

Keep telling the people via CNN and other news media that the Democratic Party is strong, and takes action running up to the mid terms and there will be voters that buy it.

It’s actually pretty clever.

That being said, given the way this administration has handled the simplest of things. I doubt they or the Democratic Party have the ability to pull it off seamlessly. So the cleverness will be lost in the cluster fuck that would define the attempt.

The enemies of our country must be rubbing their hands together with absolute joy in anticipation of Kamala Harris potentially being President given her abject failure in almost every diplomatic encounter she’s had.

Well, at this point only time will tell. In the mean time, I suspect the screwing will continue and we’re all on our backs with our legs in the air.
