And yet MORE Crazy…

One of the people that I’ve met at this family event, is a fundamentalist born again Christian.

I can tolerate that.

Like most of the Fundamentalist Christians I’ve met, this woman is duplicitous and in my all time top 3 category of Two-Faced liars.

You know, I can take that easily.

I see this person coming a mile off and my Southern upbringing kicks in. I go into formal mode where nothing that is said matters and I politely converse with the person knowing that I’m never going to see them again and not wanting to waste the powder to blow them to hell.

What’s caught my attention about this lady is that she’s a nut! Sadly, she reminds me of parts of my more immediate family and I remember the pain those people caused me as a child.

I had an uncle who used to tell my cousins that I and my mother were going to hell, because my mother and father divorced each other. As a small kid, that’s heavy duty and scary.

My grandmother was a master manipulator and loved pulling peoples strings. Between the two of them, there were times when visits seemed to drag on forever. I actually looked forward to getting back to my little room and reading a book.

Reading a book wasn’t an option while on a visit because we were there to see either the Uncle, Aunt, and cousins, or we were to see Grandma and make sure she felt like she was the center of the world.

I learned acting at a very young age. I suppose that is true of us all.

As I have been dealing with the local crazy… I’ve heard that she apparently sees demonic horns on many individuals. She’s convinced that several of the people at this reunion are possessed. She has even said to the kids, that one or more of them are possessed and she can see the demons horns on their forehead.

These are her grandchildren she’s speaking to, and about. Ok, even my Grandmother while crazy… wasn’t that crazy.

So there’s a part of me that wants to let this crazy woman truly look into the eyes of a demon. I suspect strongly she’d freak the hell out if I really let loose.

I don’t want to cause this kind of discord just for the fun of it. It would be FUN! however in this case, I feel like I should be able to say or do something in defense of the kids. You can see in their body language and read in their faces the effect she’s having on them.

I equate what she’s doing to child abuse.

No children have a defense against crazy. Kids look to and expect Adults in general and family members in particular to be truthful. Kids have zero defense against bullshit that is presented to them as factual.

As adults, it is our responsibility to make sure that children get the benefit of the lessons that mythology can teach us about ourselves, our culture, and the rules that are acceptable with our society.

We shouldn’t subject kids to the darker side of our nature or mythology until they’re ready to understand and cope with those darker impulses.

A Native American story that has always stuck with me is a story about the price you can pay for greed. I’ve always liked this story because no-one dies, or gets turned into a monster, or turns their loved ones into gold. It’s a story that conveys the lesson without shock and awe.

An Eagle noticed several of the people in a river casting a large net. As the people brought the net out of the water a large salmon flipped and glittered in the sunlight.

Eagle decided that he was more deserving of the salmon and besides the net was full of many other creatures. Eagle swooped down and grabbed the salmon through the net, however when he tried to fly away he couldn’t lift the salmon because it was still in the net.

Try as he might, Eagle wasn’t strong enough to lift the whole net and he couldn’t free the salmon either.

Eagle could have flown away if he simply released the salmon, but he would not.

So Eagle was captured and spent his days tied to a perch in the chiefs longhouse, he was never abused and was well fed from the chiefs table, however, he never hunted and never soared in the sky again.

For me this is one of those teaching stories that is completely appropriate to share with children of all ages. Many Native American stories are like this, short to the point and with easily digested concepts.

Native Americans also have more sophisticated stories the deal with the darkness that sometimes finds purchase in the human heart.

Typically these stories are told around the warriors fire, or in the Elders longhouses and only to select audiences. Often directly to the person or persons that needed to learn the lesson the story teaches.

Greece, Egypt, China, the indigenous people of Australia all tell similar stories that teach essentially the same lessons.

These stories aren’t necessarily about some angry god that is going to spank you from on high. These stories are about real, immediate problems and seek to stop a problem before it happens.

I have a lot of respect for cultural teaching tales. Among my favorites are those from the Native American cultures, and I appreciate the effort the Native Elders have put into making sure that these stories get into print.

Many interpretations of the Judeo-Christian religion(s) seem more about an angry God. God the punisher, the father who can never be pleased, for whom good isn’t “good enough”.

Sadly, many adherents to this version of an all powerful creator are more than willing to ascribe any behavior that is perceived as sinful or deviant to unseen evil demonic forces who control the sinner.

This allows these kind of believers to excuse any and all offenses and even gives them a convenient scapegoat. The Devil Made Me DO it!

If these people don’t wish to live here and now, accepting responsibility for their actions that’s fine with me…

If they want to suffer through this life only putting up with the tedium of living so that they can have a paradise when they die, missing all the beauty along the way, well so be it, and more power to them.

BUT… when these people start imposing this sick twisted philosophy on everyone else around them, and telling children that demons are inside them…  I have to stand up.

In an all too violent and cynical world let’s not give up responsibility for our actions to some higher being(s).

The Devil did not make you do it… You CHOSE to do something that you knew was wrong.

There are not demonic possessions all around us… there are people that choose darkness instead of light.

Other religions are not by definition wrong because they deviate from your very narrow perspective. People from those other religions are not automatically damned to hell.

Which lead me to this. If appropriate I’ll use my intellect and biblical knowledge to destroy this persons faith. In hopes that when they recover, a belief system and faith grows out of the destruction that is beautiful, kinder, and gentler.

The last time I did something like this I directly caused the destruction of two peoples faith, and their subsequent divorce. I put a couple into a logical box whose only exit was Faith  they couldn’t find enough faith to find the exit and so they were consumed by their doubts.

I promised <insert deity name> that I wouldn’t use my gifts like that again. I’m however convinced that for the sake of the children and the family this is a ok exception to the promise.

And Now… Off to Dinner possibly to destroy someones faith….

Friends of Animals, a Connecticut-based animal-rights organization has succeeded in Imposing their will on Texas Ranchers.

A federal court has banned the hunting of exotic animals on private land. While these moronic animal rights activists have managed to have the hunting forbidden they have doomed the 3 species they sought to protect.

The scimitar onyx is extinct in Africa and has been since 2000. But these creatures have thrived in Texas on private ranches. The Texas ranchers using their skills in animal husbandry managed to grow a population of 32 oryx into a population of over 11000.

The rarest of the 3 species is the dama gazelle Their population in 1979 was 9 there are now over 800.

The last species to be brought back from extinction is the addax. There were only 2 in 1971 there are now 5000 of them living in safety on Texas ranches.

Well they were living in safety…

The ranchers allowed hunting of these creatures. To the tune of anywhere between $7,500 to $12,500 dollars.

This extremely high cost was paid by a relatively small percentage of the hunting population. They gladly paid because they got to hunt without having to go to Africa, where these creatures don’t exist anyway.

The cash went to the ranchers and they in turn used the money to continue their breeding programs, feeding, watering, veterinary care and any number of other things required to maintain a heard of animals.

This business model makes sense!

It F1GOD00Zwas in the best interests of the Ranchers to have and maintain a vibrant healthy heard of animals that would otherwise be extinct. The numbers show that that is exactly what was going on.

Friends of Animals… Has no fucking clue. Their law suit and subsequent win has now made the herds a liability.

Given the numbers of the herds, if you had 100 taken by hunters a year then you have probably only equaled the natural predation that would have occurred in the wild.

Although if all these creatures were returned to Africa they would probably be extinct inside a year.

Their former territory has become a desert. There are literally thousands of people starving in those areas, does Friends of animals really think that starving people won’t hunt every last one of these creatures down and eat them?

And since WHEN does the federal government have the right to say to a private land owner what they can and cannot do with and on their property?

YES! Folks… these animals are the property of the ranchers. They bred them, they fed them and in that way they are no different from cows.

So they can’t be hunted anymore…

But I’ll bet they can be slaughtered and turned into meat.

And who could blame the ranchers? They have to make a living. Who’s going to pay for the maintenance and upkeep? These ranches have to turn a profit. These creatures had a higher sales price than cattle. But NOW cattle is the only option the ranchers have to be able to feed their families.

Addax004

Does Friends of Animals think that the ranchers are just going to keep shelling out what must be at least tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain these creatures?

Really? Maybe Friends of animals should start  fundraising and PAY for the maintenance themselves.

How long then until FOA decides that the costs are too high?

Our country is supposedly a free country.

When I see stupid stuff like some socialist fucking morons in Connecticut who have NEVER spent a day at hard labor like the kind you do on a ranch or a horse farm, I loose my mind.

Our Country and our world would be a DAMN sight better if people kept their noses IN THEIR OWN BUSINESS!

These idiots have no clue about the level of work and dare I say it love that these ranchers have for these animals.

Yeah, the ranchers allowed hunting but they knew that typically ONLY the old, slow, blind, or otherwise infirm would be killed. That’s the way of nature… I don’t care if these animals are inside a 50,000 acre enclosure. It still requires some level of skill to track one and eventually shoot it. ( I am opposed to hunting them from vehicles. Hunt them… on foot. Pit your hunting skills against the animals avoidance skills. Be an Apex predator, and remember even the cheetah doesn’t get a kill every day.)

Animal conservatorship and husbandry is about maintaing a balance between what your land can support and the number of animals  that land can support. I don’t see any lions, cheetahs, leopards or for that matter any apex predator except man wandering these ranches in Texas. If these herds are allowed to grow uncontrolled they will eventually starve. That is a stone fact.

The ranchers now have to choose… They’re going to choose cattle.

I hope Friends of Animals is pleased with single handedly causing the permanent extinction of these three beautiful species.

I for one will be ready and able to POINT out that Friends of Animals and a socialist court system are responsible.

I am so over Crazy!!

ChaosMan

You know, we all deal with enough crazy shit in our daily lives to make our ancestors convinced that we are all out of our damn minds.

In my neighborhood, there are a number of “eccentric people“.

All but one are pretty quiet and not much of a nuisance. You can most of the time overlook their respective crazy. I think they’re all fairly harmless.

One however, more than makes up for the others and As she’s getting older I’m convinced she’s getting crazier and more dangerous.

Several times offer the past few months she’s been screaming at the top of her lungs at people that weren’t there.

Today… While I’m detailing my car, enjoying the silence that is supposed to be what we enjoy up here in the mountains.

She starts playing music so loud that the whole neighborhood can hear. When I say hear… I mean rattle your teeth loud.

The volume level in my fucking garage 500 feet away was uncomfortably loud.

Then she decided to go on a little promenade carrying on a conversation with at least 4 people (none of whom are actually there). She’s also letting her dogs run free which makes my dogs INSANE.

My dogs don’t like her dogs, and she finds some humor in my dogs charging the fence to get at her ill behaved animals.

I know I’m supposed to be kind and forgiving but I ask you where the fuck does it stop?

We call the cops, they come up she’s quiet for 20 minutes then it starts all over again. The cops can’t really do anything because SHE’S NUTS and if they don’t perceive her to be a threat to herself, then at most they’ll give her a disturbing the peace citation.

I swear, more and more lately it feels like my right to freedom, happiness, peace in my own home are being steamrolled over by other people and no matter what you do to stand up against it, you get nowhere.

So I’ve taken the only action I can. I’ve closed the house up, turned on the A/C and decided to do stuff that needs to be done inside.

Granted I’m comfortable… But it simply means that I’ve imprisoned myself in my own home.

This kind of SHIT is exactly why I hate living in apartments, condos, and town homes. You always end up being imprisoned just so you can have some peace & quiet.

I bought a house 80miles out of Los Angeles to escape the bullshit. That apparently was an Epic #FAIL

…And now she’s doing Xena… I expect her to be butt naked in the next 15 minutes. (Not a pretty sight at all!)

Mind you, I’m sitting in my house doors & windows closed and locked washing machine running and I still hear her.

FUCK!

I am sick of other peoples crazy intruding on my life.

More Car Service

Car220100428

At the car dealership… Again!

One of the problems with modern cars… although I think the problem is more about the people servicing modern cars is that the computer in the car dictates what service can be done and when.

For example, I know I’m taking a trip that will have me driving at least 3000 miles.

As in the old days… I still like to have the car serviced, tires checked, oil changed, you know BEING RESPONSIBLE so that I don’t have a dead ass piece of junk off to the side of the road in the middle of an unfamiliar town and not knowing who to call or perhaps being uncertain of exactly where I am so that I can get help.

Well the computers have other ideas… Apparently, you’re not supposed to drive your car more than 300 miles from home.

See last time I was here I explicitly told the dealership I was going on a long trip. So I wanted all services done before I left.

I didn’t have to worry about my trip being interrupted by the car bitching about service needed. Unfortunately, the computer and the people doing the service had other ideas. The computer said that 4300 miles remained before the next service. Between the time that I had the car in for service and today… I’ve driven 600 miles. The car is now saying it wants service in 2200 miles. Hummm…. Can you see the problem?

See, I know the car… I know the kind of driving I do, I know that going up & down the mountain puts a monkey wrench in the mileage calculation. But try to explain that to a machine… or the people that act like machines.

I’ll grant you there are benefits to the computerization of our vehicles. You don’t have as many situations where your spouse says “I didn’t know I needed an oil change, or I didn’t hear the squealing of the brake calipers on the rotors”

But as I say all too often… I’M THE HUMAN, you’re the machine… do what I said.

So here I sit… waiting for another 3 hours for my car to be serviced. Those 3 hours… By the way would be mine… If folks had done what I asked in the first place.

Isn’t that a kick in the pants… It always seems to come down to:

Do what I’m telling you

Wow! Forgot how insane people are on Holiday weekends.

Just got back from running the sound system down to a pickup point.

IMAG0159

Unfortunately I had to go to a shopping center I loath! I seriously considered heading out to a factory store near Palm Springs or another factory store at South Coast just to avoid going where I had to go.

It’s not that the shopping center is bad per-se it’s the people that go there.

Lets just say that most weren’t raised in this country… As a result It feel like I’m walking into a 3rd world cesspool every time I have to go to this particular center. It’s not just the language(s) it’s the entire cultural difference that you’re suddenly confronted with.

Many Asian countries don’t have the same personal space requirements that we Americans do. The same is true of many countries South of the border. Then add the exaggerated walk and arm swinging of so called African American “Culture” plus a large crowd…

Well that’s a  recipe for someone like me to have my threat assessment systems go to DEFCON 5 in a very short time…

That’s really my problem not the problem of the patrons of the mall.

It’s also a reason that I don’t as a rule enjoy Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, or Disneyland.

Too many people and all of them seem to be from a culture other than mine. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out if someone is a threat, trying to pick a fight, or simply behaving like they would if they were back home.

The simply act of getting to the shopping center was a challenge…

I personally witnessed at least 4 people completely run stop signs. When I say run them I mean they didn’t even touch their brakes. Several others blew through  stop lights that couldn’t have been any redder if they were the size of klieg lights.

Once I got to the shopping center, there were already people fighting over parking spaces. Really! I saw one shoving match and one screaming match in progress. The amusing thing about it was that the parking lot was pretty much empty.

The people had gone to war over a parking space when less than twenty feet further on there was a wide open expanse of empty spots.

Like most people here or anywhere now day I ignored the insanity once I’d determined that the people involved weren’t an immediate threat.

After unloading the stuff from my trunk, and humping all it across the parking lot,  I get into the store, arms full with 50 lbs of equipment.

This after fighting my way through doors that swing OUT and automatic doors that are broken, only to find a woman whose blocked all three customer service / cashier stations with a shopping cart and her fat ass so that NO-ONE may get to it. The store employees tried politely asking her to move but the woman would not shut the hell up. She seems somehow to have thought that by blocking access to all the counter she was going to make her point better. The only point she made for me was that she was a rude idiot who really needed a reality check..

After standing there for 5 minutes I’d finally I’d had enough, I said “Hey you old battle-ax how about you move your shit so other customers can drop off OR BUY something?

That shut her up for only a moment…

But I got to put my stuff on the counter. A perky young lady immediately started filling out the necessary paperwork. While I’m answering questions the Battle-ax is continuing her screeching.

Then I start paying attention to what she was complaining about and my brain melted.

She’d purchased some sound system thing (I couldn’t identify what exactly) about 3 months prior. Then one of her friends purchased the same thing only it was slightly different and in the opinion of the battle-ax “Better”. She was in the store being a raving lunatic trying to intimidate the employees into exchanging her using for the “Better” one at no cost. REALLY???

Does that work?

I guess it works enough that people continue to do it.

No wonder the costs keep going up even though the jobs are off shored to cheaper labor.

I’m going to be taking a trip soon. Since I’m driving, I’m hoping that I can scope out some places where maybe the insanity isn’t quite as bad. Who knows If I find a nice place, I might just stay there.

I know I’m just as nutzs as all the other people here… But I keep hearing that shaman from Avatar… “Let us see if your insanity can be cured.”

One can hope, In the mean time I’m hanging out up where I can see trees and sky and watch the occasional sunrise.

Hope every one has a great weekend.
