Hey Sarah… Just Own it!

I  can’t stand it… God knows I try to ignore this kind of thing because it’s just too STUPID. Even thinking about this stuff makes my head hurt.

But here goes.

Sarah Palin is claiming her version of revisionist history is correct, in absolute defiance of written documentation to the contrary.

How about lets all speak the truth? How about we stop trying to spin our way out of everything?

Mrs. Palin misspoke, I’d have a lot more respect for her if she admitted it. Laughed and said something like “I don’t know what I was thinking, I was completely off in the weeds but I’m better now.” She should own it and move on.

Win7 Followup

Well I figured it out.

I’d been having trouble with WiFi and Windows 7 accessing my NAS server.

I finally figured it out this afternoon while I was trying to set up something entirely different.

It’s bloody simple really.

Windows says that firewall are either on or off but there are levels to it’s being on and off. As it turns out, there is a concept of Domain firewalling that is not obvious. The default appears to be blocking on Domains.

Turn that off, and bingo everything works as expected.

You know it would have been nice to have seen that in the main firewall window. Instead I stumbled on it completely by accident.

However it’s sorted out now and I also figured out how to open the firewall on my DSL modem to allow access to my NAS server over the internet.

Cars, Freeways, and Eating my dust

Picked up the car yesterday. It’s running like a top.

Of course this means that I’m far more likely to get a ticket, and blow through tons of gasoline. It’s just too damn much fun to leave some moron driving a wannabe “Drifter” car with only a noisy exhaust choking in the dust.

With a mere thought my Wolf is doing 100mph, and not even breathing hard. With a little more narrow focus it’s 120 and humming. I have no idea just how fast this car is and in all honesty 120 on a freeway is FUCKING stupid!

Yes I’ve done it, and YES its STILL stupid as hell.

There are way too many variables, and forgetting the cops, there is too much potential to hurt someone simply because they were going about their business and were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not to mention the lousy state of the Freeways. At 100, a pothole destroys your tire and with the tire a large portion of your control.

See, it would be one thing for me to “Go out in a blaze of glory” alone. That’s the risk I choose to take, but what about that other person, or the family in the minivan? They wouldn’t have any choice if they were simply to be the object I hit, igniting my blaze of glory.

That’s one of the things that a lot of folks forget when they’re playing around in cars.

I’ve forgotten it too on occasion, especially when some asshole is jonesing to pit his car with a loud exhaust against my “Ultimate Driving Machine”. I’d love to be able to just tell them, Stock off the showroom floor my car starts with 300 HP and they have no clue what I may have done to enhance performance.

SO lets just assume that I’m going to combine all that power, with 30 Plus years of driving experience and kick their ass. Then we wouldn’t have to race.

If after that they still wanted to have a go, I’d prefer that they as the challenger pay for the track time and we’ll head out to Willow Springs to do this thing right and not kill anybody accidentally in the process.
