For the first time in years I woke up cautiously optomistic.

I wasn’t going to watch the election results, but I turned the coverage on mid-afternoon. It was like watching an accident, I found that I couldn’t look away.

Then the numbers kept coming in that began to indicate the current administration was crippled and on its way to the trash bin of history. It was addictive, and I was hooked.

As the night wore on, I felt like the rug would be pulled out from under me. I was sure that somewhere in a dank basement in Washington D.C. a cabal of vile creatures that used to be human, in whom the corruption had finished its horrific work, were meeting to dash my hopes.

I was waiting for some last minute judicial maneuver, played out in grandiose fashion that disqualified not only Trump but somehow criminalized all Republicans and MAGA supporters. With anyone wearing Red being loaded up into cattle cars then shipped off to “Work Camps” or Re-Education camps.

I was expecting Kamala to take the stage cackling like a hyena announcing she won… by default… again…

As more states turned red I was dumbfounded. I poured myself another drink and waited for the inevitable crushing despair I knew had to come. Surely there was something that the slimy Democrats had up their sleeve.

I knew Harris & that strange troll of a man Walz, were destined to win, their job was to subject us to at least 8 more years of horrific policies, war, and poor governance.

Their job was to finally and completely break the backs of the American Citizen.

AP24255498713961 640x480.Then Kamala blew off her “watch party” leaving her supporters exhausted, despondent, and unappreciated. She went to bed, without appearing. She sent a minion to make nice, and tell everyone the party was over and to go home.

Trump meanwhile, along with his family, Vice President elect, and many others appeared before the crowd and he was humble (relatively speaking for him). He thanked people, those who were on stage and those in the crowd for their support.

In short, he was Presidential.

Donald_Trump_32758233090 768x512.jpg.optimal 3278148077.X lit up like a Christmas tree.

There was a fair amount of vitriol directed at the paid shills who’d been propping up the Biden / Harris administration for the past four years.

They’d been doing this often by misrepresenting the truth and never missed an opportunity to bash Trump, often touting previously debunked stories or flat out lies as evidence of Trump’s Hitlerian evil.

The general consensus of the messages directed at these people was a resounding “Fuck You!

As I was reading these streams of messages, I couldn’t help thinking that I’d rather have a strong convicted Felon, than a a weak duplicitous communist as the President.

At least a Felon can communicate with Putin and Zelensky on even footing…

I think the popular voting numbers also say “fuck you” to Democrats and their policies, only a bit more polite.

Some Senate seats flipped, it looks like the Republicans will control the Senate. Unfortunately, the scum Adam Schiff is projected to return to the senate. As is typical in California, the coastal areas screw over the farmers and ranchers in the interior of the state.

The House seats are still too close to call, maybe a majority will be held onto by the Republicans?

On a funnier note, some of the folks on X were saying, “I never thought I’d say this, but I am looking forward to watching The View tomorrow.”

Joy Reid is out of her damn mind and is calling Florida an “Extreme Right-Wing Fascist State”. Wow! She’s obviously never been there for any length of time. One thing I can say about Florida is you’re pretty much going to be left the hell alone to live your life so long as you don’t break the law or hurt someone else. Thats kind of the opposite of a Fascist State isn’t it?

Honestly, Joy Reid needs to retire. She seems to be interested only in fomenting anger and hatred with half truths and rage.

Oh isn’t that nice? George Gascón has been kicked out on his ass in a landslide. I guess the people of Los Angeles County are sick and tired of living in “Escape from Los Angeles” . Perhaps there will be a crackdown on lawlessness.

Barbra Streisand, & Cher should be busy packing their bags. They’ve both said they’d leave the United States if Trump was elected. In fact a lot of Hollywood celebrities should be loading up the U-Hauls this morning.

Even the HAM Radio Net, I’m in most mornings (a regular communication of HAM operators, checking in with each other.) Normally, these Nets are apolitical but once in a while someone makes a comment. This morning was one of those mornings.

One operator commented to another, “Four years ago you said we were in for a rough ride. We made it through & It’s been a pleasure to ride along with you.” The comment was super innocuous and nothing more than what it said on the face of it. The two operators had even signed off.

But there was a KAREN who listens but never says anything on-air during the net except to complain, piped up telling everyone how important, experienced, and righteous he was and that political comments weren’t appropriate.

My response to that “Karen” out of California City was to turn my radio off. I’d have liked to yell into my microphone “Go Fuck Yourself!” But that really is inappropriate and against FCC Ham Rules. Perhaps I should coin “ESGFY” as a shorthand way of saying “Elon Says Go Fuck Yourself” I don’t think it would catch on though.

I’m tired of all the fucking busybodies! Look you joyless scolds, stay in your own lane, stay out of other peoples business or conversations and live your life. That’s a lot better than sucking the life out of everything and everyone around you. Not that any of you would have the introspection to see that.

CNN’s Van Jones is, of course, playing the race card. Jones is already making excuses yet ignoring the blatantly obvious facts.

Jones stated that while you can’t really say what exactly determined the result of the 2024 election, President-Elect Donald Trump had leeway to behave poorly that his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t due to race and gender.

Uhhhh no you blithering idiot. It wasn’t about race or gender. Trumps win was about the American People rejecting the Democrat policies, and about Kamala Harris being so throughly unlikeable that she was forced out of the 2020 election because she had so few votes. She hasn’t changed or learned anything and the American People haven’t changed their opinion of her. End of story.

I think perhaps the way forward to healing the rifts between us, starts by telling the truth. The broadcast media oughta give that a try for a while and see where it takes us.

I woke up this morning actually feeling hopeful.

I did check the news feeds because I’m still waiting for the legal maneuvering that Jamie Raskin alluded to so that Trump can’t be President. I’m sure that will come out of New York, you know the source of the shittiest legal proceedings in the country. The place that killed a pet squirrel and a raccoon in what can only be described as an authoritarian like cluster fuck, while allowing rapes, murders, theft, and drugs to wash through the place like a fetid river of shit. The place that re-elected Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, the dumbest bimbo ever, (although AOC and Harris seem to be in a competition to reach bottom for that title.)

Today is still a good day, Trump is still the President Elect by number of votes cast. I was half expecting some “counting errors” to have occurred during the dark of night. Like last time.

For the moment, until New York does some other shitty legal wrangling, or BLM and ANTIFA, the dumb shit gays for Palestine, or the Frankenstein looking mob of Transgender mutilations, start burning shit down.

I’m going to enjoy feeling lighter, hopeful, and happier, than I’ve felt in years.

I think the military used to say something like “Smoke if ya got ‘em”

Have a great day.

I know why I’ve never liked being in sales…

I’m going to embellish a bit here because I want to illustrate a point. To do so I’m going to mash a bunch of experiences into one because that will make the point.

For Sale: 2 twin bed frames. 1) Black 1) White. $15 each. Local Sales only, No delivery, No Shipping. Buyer will need to pick the item(s) up.

Seems simple doesn’t it? Oh, but it never is simple.

@transmomma56238: Do you have a pink one?

Seller: No, only what is listed Black or White.

@transmomma56238: I really need pink.

Seller: Then you’ll need to go elsewhere.

@transmomma56238: I’d pay an extra dollar for a pink one.

Seller I don’t have a pink one.

@transmomma56238: Could you paint it?

Seller: Not for a dollar. You can buy one & paint it any color you want.

@transmomma56238: I don’t have the room or paint for that.

Seller: Neither do I. Perhaps you should look elsewhere for what you want.

@transmomma56238: But you have the best price.

Seller: I don’t have what you want, so I don’t have the best price.

@transmomma56238: I’m a single mother of a transgender, autistic, blind, diabetic, child. My little girl is crying so hard that you don’t have a pink bed frame.

Seller: I have a black bed frame  and a white bed frame. That’s it. Take it or leave it.

@transmomma56238: You don’t have to be mean.

Seller: Stating the truth isn’t being mean.

@transmomma56238: I’ll pay $18 for the white one if you paint it pink.

Seller: No. Another buyer is here right now.

@transmomma56238: Don’t sell them the white one I want that one.

@transmomma56238: Answer me!

@transmomma56238: Don’t sell the white one!

@transmomma56238: Where are you?

@transmomma56238: Why aren’t you answering me?

Seller: Sorry, the white one just sold. They paid cash, and loaded it into their truck. It’s gone.

@transmomma56238: You bastard! I’m reporting you to the administrators! I’m giving you a bad seller rating! You’ve upset my child! She really wanted the pink one.

Administrator: We understand that you did not sell a pink bed frame to @transmomma56238 after you agreed to do so. We will suspend your account until you provide good reason for mistreating this buyer.

Seller: I didn’t have a pink bed frame. I didn’t agree to sell one to @transmomma56238. Please review the ad. I’ve included the entire text exchange with @transmomma56238 for your review.

Administrator: Your explanation is insufficient. Pending further investigation and resolution of this matter, your account is hereby suspended.

36 hours later…

Administrator: After review, we have reinstated your account. We caution you to be polite and courteous at all times to potential buyers. Failure to strictly follow our terms of service and community guidelines regarding abuse is not acceptable. We will be monitoring your account for any further Abuse.

@transmomma56238 I’ll take the black bed frame. I suppose I can paint it. But I’ll only pay $10 and you’ll have to deliver it. The Star marks where I am, I guess you’re in California??? I need this by tomorrow.

Seller: Uh… No. During the 36 hour suspension you caused on my account. I sold the second bed frame. I was in fact, updating my account at this moment.

@transmomma56238: You bastard! You knew I wanted one of them! Why didn’t you take the ad down immediately? How dare you disappoint my child like this? I’m reporting you I’ll make sure you never sell anything on this site again.

Seller: I never agreed to sell you anything, contrary to what you thought. I wasn’t able to update the ad, or conduct any further business on this site during the account suspension you caused. Apparently the site administrator believes I somehow abused you, which I did not. The shit is sold, it’s gone, it’s not coming back, you lost out due to your actions, NOT MINE. If you’ve got a problem, I suggest you take it up with the Administrator.

Seller: So, you crazed insane bitch. In the words of Elon Musk… GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Administration: ALERT!!! You have violated our terms of service and community standards your account will be suspended pending further review.

Seller: Clicks [Submit] confirming deletion of account with satisfaction. Spends rest of day placing remaining items previously for sale in large dumpster.

The above is a complete flight of fancy. However it is illustrative of elements of my online sales experience.

I’ve run across more flakes than I can count. I don’t understand why people would ask for something you’re not advertising as if you have some back room, or off season Santa’s Elves working to run up their custom order in your garage.

I say what I’ve got, the price I’m asking, and that they’ll have to come and get it. I don’t get what’s so difficult about it.

Come to think of it, my online dating application experience is pretty much the same. I say what I’m looking for, who I am, and next thing I know, someone is asking me if I can give them a ride to their drug dealer in exchange for a blowjob. Uhh NO! There is no part of that I’m interested in.

Perhaps the issue is with me?

Perhaps the problem is that people are so incredibly stupid and entitled that they think they can get away with anything? Or that they’re so selfish, self absorbed, and shameless, that their “normal” stupidity amplifies my inherent disdain?

In any event, this sort of thing (my disdain for humans in general) is perhaps why I’ve not been in sales in any meaningful way.

Doctor Who Daleks. This is also one of the reasons that humanity should be on their knees every morning and evening thanking God that I do not have a way off this planet or a space craft in orbit.

I’d make a Dalek, Terminator, or the Matrix AI proud wiping the planet clean of defective humanity if possible, all of humanity if necessary.

I’m going to have to visit one of these!

E86decc8ed22352241aff2f896bf5cb8 1200 80.I caught this article;

Grocery Stores Selling Ammunition Out of Vending Machines in Alabama and Oklahoma

I decided that I’m going to have to make a point of stopping next time I’m through the area.

I play a video game called Borderlands. In the game there are vending machines from which you can buy Ammo or weapons.

I never thought I’d see anything like it in real life. Yet, here we are. The contrast between California’s restrictive background checks to buy ammunition versus going to a vending machine in Alabama or Oklahoma is mind boggling.

I get excited walking into a Bass Pro outside California, where I’m able to comparison shop brands and prices. Then pick up several boxes of Ammo off the shelf put them in a cart and make my purchase without anyone batting an eye.

The thought of a vending machine is damn near orgasmic.

I thought perhaps it was some kind of parody article but it’s the real deal.

Along the same lines, I saw a picture of a store someplace that I’d also like to visit. From the picture it looked like you could buy a carton of Marlboro Reds, a doughnut, cup of coffee, a Sixpack, rifle, and ammo at the same time.

I’d probably have to take a private moment just inside the front door.

Even as a kid in the Deep South you had to go to the gun store for guns and ammo, the liquor store for booze, and the grocery store for other things. When I got to California and found that you could buy booze at just about anyplace, even some pharmacies, and it didn’t matter if it was Sunday or not I thought it was truly progressive.

Walking into a store where literally everything could be purchased at once would blow my mind. Although there was a time when Sears Catalogues would sell you everything under the sun.

Being out of California and not being able to buy liquor in the grocery store is weird but I’ll take that over the regulations and taxes extant in California.

I’m not saying California is terrible and other places are perfect. It’s not that binary. I think it’s more a matter of choosing an acceptable level of taxes and regulations versus services rendered by the state for those fees and taxes, versus personal choice about restrictions or limitations on your personal freedoms.

Kind of like an HOA. Sure, you may love the house. But do you really want to deal with the HOA fining you because your grass is 1 millimeter too low, or the grease spot left on the street in front of your home by the garbage truck on a Tuesday, you didn’t get to cleaning up until Saturday? Do you want to be fined because you parked your boat in your drive way for one day packing up for a family trip?

Some HOAs are out of control and because you signed on, when you bought your beautiful house you’ve got to put up with it.

Traditionally I have hated HOAs with passion and vigor, recently I’ve revised my opinion of HOAs due to my neighborhood. I still hate HOAs but I’ll admit they might be useful.

In contemplating moving, I have opened my search criteria to include HOAs whose fees are reasonable and for whom their responsibilities are limited to common areas. This slight change has opened up neighborhoods that I would previously have passed up even if the housing prices were bargain basement.

So for those of you who think I’m never learning or changing here’s an example.

All that being said, I wonder what other freedoms Oklahoma and Alabama have that I might not have in California. I wonder what their tax structures and employment is like.

I’ve been looking at places that are kind to retirees. Places that have low or no taxes, who don’t regulate or tax the hell out of everything, and last but not least someplace where my car registration doesn’t cost $600 a freaking year.

(Ya know, my car is a 2019. The registration was right at $600 when I got it, and it’s still about $600 although the vehicle itself isn’t worth what it was when I got it. California charges registration fees based on value not weight. Makes sense if you think about it. Why charge a fee that assumes the individual should pay for their portion of wear & tear on the public roads. California can take more charging based on value of nice cars, and still not maintain the roads. I say that as someone whose been here a long time and remember smooth gleaming ribbons of freeways in good repair, instead of what we have today where a kidney belt might be advised.)

I’d also like lower medical insurance costs.  I’ve had no, none, zero, nada, major medical issues and am in good health. I’m not obese (okay, I could lose a few pounds) so I’d really like to know why medical insurance costs 1.5 X my mortgage payment.

That’s before even using it. I know the Doctors have to maintain their country club memberships, pay for their yachts, make alimony payments on their previous 2 wives, pay for their whore/mistress on the side and keep their current wife in diamonds and furs but come on.

If you force people to choose between a roof and health insurance I’m betting most choose a roof over their heads.

I don’t think ammo vending machines are a good enough reason to move to a particular state. I do think a state having ammo vending machines is reason enough to look at other aspects of the state to see if it’s a place I might be happy and can afford to live in.

At the very least, Ammo tourism might be fun. I’d love to have a picture of me buying rounds from one of these things.

Busted! When AI writing goes off the rails!

I routinely look at articles discussing Apple iPhone’s “Dynamic Island”. It’s a relatively new feature on iPhones and a new feature for me as this is the first iPhone I’ve owned that incorporated it.

Every once in a while I’ll have an app running, then switch to something else. At these times I’m made aware of the Dynamic Island because interesting information from one or more apps is displayed in the island.

Not all apps support Dynamic Island, nor do they need to. However, I’m always intrigued when an app puts something in the island.

This morning I ran across this article about the DI and had a really good laugh after my brain rebooted once or twice. The article starts getting really funny in the “Apple’s Vision for the Dynamic Island” section.

Here for your amusement is a copy of the article in case someone over at cellularnews.com wakes up and realizes the AI made up all the content.

I suppose it’s possible that cellularnews.com or the listed source thesweetsetup.com are a completely bogus site designed for nothing but pushing advertisements. Perhaps this article is satire?

It’s been a weird busy week.

Not that I’m complaining about it.

The week has been a weird one. It’s the one year anniversary of Jerry’s death. I was feeling it a little, but nothing unexpected, and in a way, now that I’ve been through a whole year there’s a sense of relief.

Part of it is distance from him having died and part of it is that now that I’ve been through all the holidays and special days I’m somewhat relieved and confident about having survived. Oh sure I was a little melancholy and nostalgic…

I’m still standing.

Monday into Tuesday

I was struck by the memory that on those dates it was the beginning of the end. I’d seen him carried out the door to the hospital unconscious and unresponsive. Most of that memory was fear and intense worry coupled with trying to convince myself that everything was going to be okay.

Just a few days later he was dead.

Wednesday

Nothing much happened, I was cleaning and tossing but the day passed in a bit of a fog

Thursday,

Was the actual date… The day Jerry died. I spent with the dog, quietly.

Friday

I was at the temple for service and that was nice. It was music Jerry arranged or had a particular fondness for. After the service, one of the congregants said they were still upset and a little angry that Jerry had passed on. They said, “You must still be feeling that way too.”

“Oddly,” I explained, “I don’t. I still miss him terribly, but we had 34 years together. Most of those years were good ones. The years we had were more than many people get. Divorce, illness, accidents, all cut time spent with someone. That we found each other, loved, and endured for all that time was a gift. Of course I’d like to have more time but I’m thankful for what I got.”

The congregant nodded and said I had a good attitude. I suppose maybe I do.

Saturday

I had a lot on fun and pretty much spent all day yesterday laughing my ass off.

A long overdue get together with two men I’ve known for 44 years finally happened. We had a drink, in my case two… we wandered, talked, laughed, and enjoyed being together once again.

This get together should have been called the Fixed Income tour!  It was the first time that all three of us got together after having retired.

We met when we were starting out, I remember those first paychecks, waiting in line to buy gas, and wondering why so much of our puny paychecks was whittled away in taxes.

What I didn’t know then was that these friends would in fact remain lifelong friends who cared, and for whom I cared, about all these years.

To be honest, a shit ton of people pass through our lives. Some of them you’re happy to see go, others you can’t hold onto, time and life pulls you apart, and the last and best category are friends that are constants like stars in the sky.

(Yes, I know stars aren’t forever… Shut it! Science brain. I’m waxing all poetical… The stars in the sky will outlast us and the planet!)

Yesterday  I managed to walk right past a couple of Pro-Palestein protestors with their flags and stupid slogans and not challenge them. My two friends were hanging back a bit as we passed, whether to help if I lost control and shot my mouth off, or to just laugh if shot my mouth off and started a riot, I’m not sure. Perhaps a bit of both…

When we were going to pass the protestor’s spot again I wished I had a lighter because I wondered if I could legally burn their flags. The question popped out of my head following the logic that you can burn an American flag with impunity so why not a foreign flag?

It appeared that the Palestinian protestors had gone home for the day, protesting and waving flags being such hard work. (Dudes, you didn’t have to go to the gym on arms day!)  I presume they were drowning their sorrows about Gaza with a lovely half caf double latte, a hot meal prepared by someone else, and a bong full of the latest variation of pot they’d procured. Their lives are, after all, soooo difficult.

I was gratified to note that there were only two Palestinian flags and it didn’t look like a lot of people were paying attention to the protestors. Maybe as Americans tend to do, we’re just getting bored hearing about it. Seen any Ukraine flags lately?

I suggested at one point that perhaps the three of us could go on a stealing spree through all the high end stores at the Glendale Galleria in keeping with the times. There was some question about what exactly the cash limit was before it became a felony. Since all of us are planners and have expensive tastes we couldn’t come to consensus about what we could steal and how much. Next time though…

We’re gonna shock the world as the “Geriatric Three”. At our ages it would be the perfect capper to our lives. Mug Shots in our 60s! I wonder if the police are more afraid of arresting old guys than young guys? The young guys are more like brawlers in a school yard, lots of swinging but not much damage.

Old guys though, well, we’re JUST PLAIN MEAN! Next time I see one of the local sheriffs maybe I’ll ask.

I even noticed I was “Hunting” there were some interesting people at the mall and I wasn’t being too subtle about checking them out. It’s been a year, I could start dating again without it being unseemly. I noticed I was doing something I swore I’d never do, I was being a little chicken-hawkish. Some of the guys I was noticing were so young, mid 30s to early 40s. My god! They could easily be my kid!

They were safe… The only way I could’ve caught them was if I was riding on one of those mobility scooters you see old folks riding in the park. The eye candy was nice. I knew some of them were pretty to look at but wholly incompatible with me or any of my beliefs. Perhaps it’s just as well that time and age is slowing me down a bit.

The way my knee was acting up toward the end of the day, I’m probably going to be in the market for a good cane soon. When I got home last night I think the health app said I’d walked 7 miles yesterday. I know I’d walked 1.5 miles with the dog in the early morning before heading to Glendale but was surprised that the total had ended up so high.

My knee didn’t start really acting up until later in the day. I’d tweaked it again on Wednesday or Thursday and had to ice it.

All told yesterday, aside from being slow to start working after we’d been sitting for a while, it wasn’t too bad,  It’s probably a sign that I should increase my walking distance and start stretching a bit more to continue rebuilding strength in both knees.

One of my friends described being at a Mall as something approximating Hell in his estimation. After seeing Duck-lipped women, men with painted fingernails wearing too short, “skinny jeans” as fashion statements, and too many languages to count he might have a point.

I’m reminded that I’ve been fairly isolated, preferring to stick close to home. Some would say it’s a holdover from the COVID lockdowns, in truth, it started prior to COVID. I’d been living in San Diego and in close contact due to apartment dwelling, and I’d become super tired of people in general.

The point is, that because I’ve not been around a lot of folks I’m even more uncomfortable in crowds these days. Not that I’m a germaphobe but I’m mindful that my immune system hasn’t needed to be as active in recent years as it had in the past. Without being exposed to the filth of humanity daily, your immune system starts eating Bon Bons and doing its nails.

So I might end up with some stupid late winter cold, but being out in the world with my friends was totally worth it.

The next time we get together perhaps it should be here. We could cook out on the grill, listen to music, and laugh watching the sun track across the mountains, while listening to the sound of light breezes in the trees. Bonus, the dog would be happy with new people to annoy!

The dog is currently pissed at me. He was alone two consecutive nights and missed our ball time. Thankfully the temps have been very moderate but both nights the wind picked up before I got home. He hates the wind!  So last night he pointed the stinky end at me and slept at the foot of the bed.

I’m going to have to make it up to him.

But that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Today, Sunday, I’m going to lunch with one of Jerry’s friends and then I’m looking forward to resting a bit on Monday.

Then it’s back to sorting and tossing the accumulated crap. I’m still shooting for having the house on the market in spring. If something happens between now and then to change that desire, it will still be okay because I wont’ have a bunch of crap.

I hope everyone is in as good a space as I am. Uh OH, the Dog is looking for me. It’s time for me to get dressed and take him for a walk.
