Is The President out of his damn mind?

I was stunned this morning when I heard about President Biden’s vaccination mandate speech.

How does this build unity?

There are a lot of reasons to get the vaccination, there are a lot of reasons not to. It is, and should be a personal choice.

Keeping your job should not factor into it. Submitting weekly to someone jabbing something up your nose isn’t going to make anybody pleasant to deal with.

Where the hell was OSHA when hepatitis was all the rage in the 90’s. Why did I have to cough up the money out of pocket to get the hepatitis vaccine to protect myself from outbreak after outbreak in various workplaces?

The President said that employers should provide paid time off for their employees to go get the vaccine. But notably he said nothing about employers paying for the employee to have a swab shoved up their nose once a week.

In my particular case that process will no doubt cause massive nose bleeds due to sinus problems. I’m not talking a little spotting, I’m talking gushing like you’ve got a broken nose or are going to bleed out.

Problems by the way that my former employer couldn’t seem to be able to schedule a day or two of my earned vacation time to allow me to address.

It’s telling that I worked for them for 3 years and when they laid me off the HR person commented, looking at my final paycheck, that I hadn’t used any vacation time. Just sayin… There are a lot of very petty managers in some “Low Skill” jobs who can’t be bothered to approve scheduled time off for an employee 6 months in advance, but they have no trouble scheduling their own vacations throughout the year. Again, Just sayin…

To hear a sitting President of the United States of America say, “This is not about freedom or personal choice,” Is a completely WTF moment.

“We’re going to protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated co-workers,” Yeah, Biden said that too. WHAT? If they’re vaccinated why do they need protection? Isn’t that what the vaccination is supposed to do?

“If these governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my powers as president to get them out of the way,” Biden said that too.

What the hell does that mean? Does he think he’s going to somehow annex troublesome states into some mega state that is directly under Federal control in Washington? Will he violate The Posse Comitatus Act by deploying the US Military in this “Mega State” to enforce his will?

This is the kind of thing that brought about the civil war.

80 million people (by Joes count) just unlocked their gun safes.

In the coming weeks, he is going to wonder why the FBI is doing 100% more background checks than they already are. Ammunition manufacturers are on the one hand saying, “Well shit, we’ll never keep up now.” and on the other hand they’re thinking that the shareholders are going to be very pleased with the end of year results.

I’ve never been so angry at a President in my life. (I watched Nixon leave office like a criminal, I lived through the Carter years, and the Clinton scandal!)

On balance, additional articles are being published that say this mandate will probably not be on the books until sometime next year (if at all).

Perhaps by that time we’ll all have figured out that Joe was just posturing. Maybe if we’re lucky he’ll be retired or impeached and we’ll just be dealing with Kamala’s incompetence.

This is not my country anymore.

The President is essentially saying that we should no longer have the right to decide what goes into our body and still be allowed to have a job. How long then sir until mandatory DNA testing of fetuses in the womb to determine if they are worthy to be born? Will we then, force women to have abortions? Will we begin selective breeding programs with our population? There was a little man once in Germany who thought that was a good idea.

If We The People, are reduced to the status of “Property of the State” why shouldn’t our government begin a breeding program? If we exist only to serve, then we needn’t have free will or creativity. The government could do quite well with a population that was physically strong, disposable, prolific, minimally educated, and which took commands without question.

The dystopian nightmare I describe above is obviously hyperbole. I use it to illustrate how different the America of today, appears from the America I was raised to believe in, for people like myself.

Honestly, there are times when I’d swear I’m living in a science fiction novel. 

What happened to following the science?

I do not discount the seriousness of COVID, I do question the efficacy of the vaccines. That is my right. COVID in a healthy population is 99.8% survivable. The CDC’s own data bear that out. 

The numbers presented yesterday by Jen Psaki, 140,000 new cases and 1000 deaths per day, using simple math, the result is a death rate of 0.00714286. That number is statistically zero. Anybody should be able to do that math. 

That being said, the death rate is probably even lower, because not all of the 140,000 detected cases are likely to result in anything more than a slight cough or fever.  The end result of which will be broad ranging immunity to COVID.

In 2019 the United States averaged 8,159 deaths per day. Not to minimize the loss to family members of those people, but death is a natural event. Yet we have the White House Press Secretary touting 1000 deaths per day as some kind of national emergency. Where is the science there? Where is the logic?

When the creator of mRNA techniques says that his work in the field was not useful for vaccines due to the possibility of mRNA giving rise to variants and should therefore not be used to create vaccines, is he not the authority on the subject?

If we’re supposed to “Follow the science” I ask the simple question, how is The President’s proposed mandate following any science?

I am not chattel.

I am not a slave.

I am a free person, whose rights are protected under The Bill of Rights and The Constitution of the United States of America. The government works for the people, not the other way around.

It’s well past time to metaphorically grab the government by its collar and say BAD GOVERNMENT! BAD! Then Rub their nose in the pile of shit on the living room floor. To remind them who’s the boss.

I’d say We The People start that process with an impeachment right now.

I’m beyond disgusted… I’m super Pissed!

The bodies of our soldiers (needlessly killed) aren’t cold in their graves yet and the administration is trying to turn the page metaphorically.

I’m not one to rend my clothing or wander the halls weeping, but “come on man”. Can we at least take a week to allow their families to grieve? How about putting off the ‘turning the page’ until after the 9/11 anniversary?

Is that so much to ask?

How about a dignified speech acknowledging these last victims of an ideology that is nothing but a death cult. Something like, “these young and valuable members of our brave military will be the last to die by a fucking suicide bomber.”

How about a speech wherein the American flag waving on some kind of big screen dissolved into live bomb feeds of the destruction of every major city, water & power station, internet nexus, cell phone tower, opium field, and infrastructure items like bridges and roads, in Afghanistan being destroyed. Then as a final touch, salt the ground with depleted uranium, or nuclear waste water.

Probably too extreme. I guess I’m a little more pissed off about the Afghanistan debacle than I thought I was. Please pardon the outburst.

That’s not the way a civilized human being is supposed to act or think.

I can assure you that is exactly what the Taliban, ISIS, ISIS-K, or Hamas would do if the roles were reversed. I can make that statement because these fanatics are driven not by the here and now, they’re driven by an image of absolute forgiveness in the afterlife where all their woes & cares will be attended to.

All things in the service of Allah are forgivable. Lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder, burn… even sex with animals and small boys is just fine. After all a warrior of god shouldn’t have to beat his own meat. Besides, if little boys grow up liking cock, they can be gang raped again then thrown from the nearest tall structure.

I’d love for us to show these animals exactly what we think of them.

Christianity had a similar phase. The crusades, the inquisition, the destruction of countless native tribal cultures in North & South America and on many islands in the Caribbean and across the Pacific.

Three to six hundred years ago, I’d have been advocating for the Annihilation of Christianity too. It’s possible for a religion to be essentially a good thing, but for its practitioners to be so completely evil that they taint everything else about the religion.

In the case of Christianity, it grew a conscience and simultaneously realized that entire generations were being sacrificed for no real gain. Had it not, Islam and quite possibly Judaism would be dust in the sands of history.

Sadly, Islam continues to be a wasteful religion of a backwards people.

In this very blog I have said that we shouldn’t interfere in the internal politics of any country.

I stand by that. However, in this situation there is a continuing and growing threat to our way of life.

What kind of moron, leaves weapons in a country controlled by terrorists like the fucking Taliban? Who doesn’t see the logic of at least destroying those weapons if you can’t take them with you? I’m not military, never served, I wish I could have. Even a non-military idiot like me knows you don’t leave loaded guns in a rabid monkey cage.

I’m all for bombing them all back to the Stone Age, ignoring them for a century, and seeing how they fare in their re-evolution.

What I have described, President Biden, is payback. Not random drone strikes that are no better than terrorist activities themselves.

Let them hear and see the entirety of our air force darkening their skies. Let them hear the approaching destruction as the bombs fall. Let them make peace with their deities and then let them die.

Any survivors can record their history on goat skin, Stone Age people don’t need cell phones, computers, banking, or communication systems.

I have also said in this blog, that we cannot deal in a civilized way with uncivilized people. We must communicate in a language that is unequivocally understood.

The message should be simple, “Leave us the fuck alone, and we’ll do the same.” End of message.

No cash, no reparations, no rebuilding, no negotiations, nothing at all beyond the message.

Perhaps then 20 years of blood, sweat, tears, and pain, would mean something. At least our dead would be avenged.

It wouldn’t do away with Islam, but it might give some of the other terrorist fucks something to think about.

We wouldn’t have to know their names, just where they came from. Obliteration of their home, or just the village they were operating from might be enough to have them put their shit down and start dealing with their own problems.

This isn’t entirely hate on my part. A very large part of this is blind rage. I watched the towers fall 20 years ago. I heard every word released from flight 93. I pounded my fists bloody on the floor in front of my television. I didn’t then, and don’t now, give one runny shit about the why of it, or any of the apologists explanations.

In the 20 years since, that white hot rage had cooled to a more reasonable dull red. It sparked up with every IED or Islamic asshole murdered some innocent. It gets a lot brighter every time I see or read some bullshit from Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, or Rashida Talib. I’d like to see all three of them dropped into Afghanistan with the Arabic equivalent of “WHORE” written on their forehead. Let’s see how they like Shira Law then.

Generally though the rage had died down to a manageable level until the Biden fuck up.

Coming as it does, so close to 9/11, I’m 20 years back in time and the white hot rage is as hot as it was then. (Maybe a little cooler, since at the time I was for nuking the entire muslim world and letting Allah sort it all out. Carpet bombing Afghanistan and salting the country with radioactive waste not withstanding, at least it’s not the entire Arab world! That’s progress isn’t it?)

In my life from now on, a “Biden” will always be shorthand for epic next level fuck up. In that, Obama was completely right. Biden can and will fuck up beyond recognition, everything he touches.

On the plus side, I’m pretty sure that he’s fucked up Kamala Harris’s political career too.

We all know he’s not going to last through his term. He’s obviously ill. Even Lady McBiden with all her Bene Gesserit machinations can’t keep him propped up forever. (Like the Dune reference?)

Frankly I’m surprised that Lady McBiden has kept him functioning on whatever drug cocktail this long. It must be taking a hell of a toll on his body. Kamala will end up being President for a time, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Pelosi has a turn in the big chair, when Kamala proves completely incompetent.

I’m betting that in 2024 the Democratic Party is going to be cheating super hard to keep Kamala or Pelosi in office. Regardless of what may or may not have happened in 2020, they’re going to have to mess with voting in broad daylight to keep any Democrat in The Office of the President.

Yep, The Afghanistan debacle has really pissed me off.

It’s gonna take me some time to cool down, maybe another 20 years!

Oh Come on now!

This article is one of those that makes you just wonder what the hell?

Welsh language use ‘systemically racist’, Arts Council warned

The headline is enough to get the blood boiling. The meat of the article, not so much, although it does leave you at a low simmer.

The synopsis is this;

Apparently The Arts Council of Wales, and National Museums Wales produce all their grant, and other normal business materials in Welsh. (You know, their NATIVE language…)

This use of their native language, presents an obstacle to artists that do not speak the language.

That’s not racist, it’s not white supremacy, it’s normal folks of a country going about their normal day, doing normal business.

If you visit an Arabic country, you better be able to speak Arabic or you’re not going to get too far without a translator. Does anybody think that China using Chinese, (Any of the dialects) is racist?

If you’re going to live in a country, you should probably do your best to learn the language. I’m an “Arrogant American“, yet while searching for a country to go spend time in, (longer than a vacation,) I came to the conclusion that prior to going to that country I should have a functional command of the language.

My selection was German. I’d like to visit Germany and perhaps get a work visa there for a time. My second choice is Norway. (Note: don’t try to learn two languages at once, it will blow your mind…)

This preoccupation with racism has become tiresome and childish.

Germans, Italians, and the Irish immigrated to North America and learned the predominant languages spoken there. English or French if they went to Canada, depending on the province. English typically if they moved to the US. (As a side note, they were still discriminated against.)

Canada AND France still by law, require that French appears on all imported goods. Is that racist? Hell NO!

Is it racist that Spain and much of South America conduct business in Spanish or Portuguese? Hell NO!

My experience with speaking languages (Spanish & French) to folks who natively speak those languages has been met with nothing but respect and appreciation. Sure I screw up, sometimes with hilarious consequences.

There is nothing more joyous than two complete strangers laughing so hard they’re crying because of a totally screwed up attempt to ask for directions. The laughter underscores that we’re all human and imperfect, and yet kindness is usually our default setting.

People in Mexico and people in Quebec have always demonstrated respect for my courtesy to them because I was trying to speak their language. They might very kindly switch to English for clarity and gently correct my pronunciation. They often commented that it was rare to meet an American that tried at all.

My German may suck. Even when I master it, I’ll always have a heavy American accent. When I finally get to Berlin, at least the people I encounter will know I respect them and their country, because I took the time to learn the language.

If I were an artist in Wales, I’d work very hard to learn the language for three reasons. 1) It’s a lot easier to sell art if you can communicate. 2) It’s a lot easier to have a social life if you get the jokes. 3) Art by its very nature tends to attract a somewhat effete clientele, you’d probably do much better applying for grants without a barrier of language.

It’s not racist for people of a country to speak their native language. It’s completely normal. The abnormality is that visitors to a country expect special treatment.

This may force me to get a dumb phone…

Apple recently released information about enabling child protection features. 

I’m ALL IN for stopping Child Porn.

When I was running my small business sorting out people’s computer problems, part of the contract stated:

In the course of performing repairs, should child pornography, “snuff” pornography, evidence of non-consensual torture, or murder, (Video, Photos,) of any kind be discovered, all work will be terminated. In accordance with law enforcement directives your computer and your contact information will be immediately turned over to appropriate law enforcement. Initial that you have read and understand :_____

There were only a very few people who got to that paragraph and decided against my repairing their computer.

More often than not, folks would ask questions like, “I have some pictures of my child as a newborn or in their first bath, will those be a problem,” or “I may have some photos of me and my spouse ummm, having sex. Will those be a problem,” The answer to both questions was always, “No, that’s not a problem. I won’t go looking for photos while I’m working on your machine, but sometimes if I’m recovering files I’ll stumble on something.”

Generally people would laugh and I’d assure them it was best to think of me like their lawyer or doctor. Nothing innocent I ever came across would leave my possession and any drives I used to backup their data while I was re-installing their OS or whatever were cleansed with a military grade wipe program as soon as their data was back on their computer safely.

There was one guy who flat out told me that his computer was loaded with some seriously evil stuff. He saw the look on my face and produced his badge. “I’m a crime scene photographer,” he explained. He was kind enough to give me moment to call and verify the badge number. Thankfully in his case I was pulling back some documents that had been corrupted, and I didn’t have to worry about crime scene photos.

There was only one guy, a priest, who I enacted that paragraph with. He had his computer turned over to law enforcement. (In truth, had his computer not been full to the brim with horrific porn, I’d have missed it altogether.)

The common thread here is that I didn’t go looking for stuff. It’s really none of my business. In my business privacy was something that I respected and honoring privacy was what got me referrals.

For a moment think of what information you’re handing over to a 20 year old at The Geek Squad counter. Did that make your hair stand up? It probably should have. Which is not to imply that The Geek Squad is a bad group of folks… How much of your private business do you want shared? Even if it’s only in the back room of a Best Buy. 

“Hey Bill, take a look at this guy’s wife! She’s super HOT!”

Uh yeah, you get the picture.

So I’m super AGAINST Child Pornography, But at the same time I’m really about Privacy.

There’s the conflict.

Apple is planning on having your device scan for specific images that are currently identified in a database. It looks like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children may be providing some or all of the HASH (Think of these as numeric fingerprints of an image) which makes sense.

As we all know, if you look for naked pictures of anyone you’ll find the same 20-50 images repeated on site after site. The same is probably more true for Child Porn. 

That area is so… Wrong, that I’m betting it’s a fairly limited number of unique images. I can’t imagine there are more than a few thousand “Producers” of such material worldwide. Although there are apparently millions of “Consumers” of this kind a material. It’s the consumers that drive the trade, not the pervert who gets their jollies abusing children. 

I say that without doing any research, and I may be terribly naive about it. Honestly, I don’t want to research the actual numbers, the thought turns my stomach. And the last thing I want to do is cleanse my computer of God only knows what kind of viruses those sites would try to put on my system. I also don’t want to have to explain to the FBI why I’d suddenly taken an interest in those sites. 

Let me maintain what’s left of my shredded innocence, okay?

Anyhow, since Apple is going to be running this on our local machines what is that going to do to our battery life? That’s the first thing that popped through my head. The next thing that popped through my head is the myriad ways technology like this could be misused. They’ve said that they’ll be looking at photos sent via messages too. To me this begs the question of how long will it be until Apple is scanning our message text for so called “Questionable Material”. 

Instead of looking for Child Porn, what would happen if say the DOJ demanded Apple look for specific people? How about a specific location? Maybe a specific phrase? How about specific websites in your browser history? What about looking for a specific item, that you might have taken a picture of?

Apple’s explanation of the HASH algorithm indicates the proposed system wouldn’t be applicable at this time for that kind of specificity. But AI augmented recognition could eventually be used to do something like that. On that point, we’re not looking at the next decade, we’re looking at a handful of years at best.

The current algorithm could be used on your browser history right now. It could just as easily look for politically questionable sites and target you.

China and any other totalitarian state must be orgasmic over the possibilities.

What then?

In a society of picture happy people, how might such a system be turned into a weapon against you?

You realize that if you have your photos syncing to iCloud that the conduit works both ways. If I take a picture with my phone, it goes to iCloud and is available on all my devices. Likewise, if I put photos into iCloud’s web interface those photos can appear on all my devices.

What kind of chaos could one create by uploading child porn to someone’s iCloud account?

Imagine this scenario. A nasty divorce, the aggrieved spouse has the password to their partner’s iCloud account and in a fit of pique uploads child porn. Oooops! Now the divorce is on the fast track because one of the partners is in jail.

Imagine the possibilities with politicians. This brings an all new meaning to the term “Mud Slinging”. Although Hunter Biden’s laptop apparently didn’t raise any eyebrows at the DOJ. 

This smells like a proverbial “Slippery Slope” and it worries the hell out of me.

The President has asked? Demanded? That big technology be brought to bear on White Extremist groups. But he hasn’t actually defined what that means. My definition of White Supremacy is very different from the few groups the president has called out.

Is this another case of White Supremacists are, “What I say they are at any particular moment,” if so, then Apple is going toward support of a totalitarian state and that is something I can’t support.

I can turn off iCloud. I can make my phone as dumb as a stone. I can isolate my devices in such a way that they can compute HASHes all day long but they’ll not be able to send their data anywhere. Or I can go completely dark. The internet is super nice to have, but if it becomes a tool that I’m handing to an authoritarian government that demands my submission…

Then I can do without it.

I realize this sounds very conspiracy theory, but when Jews who lived through the Holocaust, and Russians who escaped communism, or folks from Cuba, or escapees from Venezuela,  start saying, “This is how it began in my country.” I listen up!

I defer to their experience.

Our government has grown large enough that it is self sustaining without the consent of the people. That makes it, and the people enmeshed in it, dangerous. Like a beast in the forest, the government will strike at a threat to defend itself. It’s possible for the people asking questions and demanding answers, to become a threat. How did The President put it? An Existential Threat.

There are many other ways to communicate. Surprisingly there are methods of encryption that are difficult enough to be unbreakable for a reasonable length of (ALL Encryption can and will be broken if enough effort is put into the task,) time which do not require computational power to create.

However, those methods might require actually seeing someone in person. Meeting in a bar or restaurant is probably going to be unavailable in the near future. With the implementation of COVID passports, even if you’re not carrying a phone that’s broadcasting your location, your COVID passport being scanned at the door to some venue will provide tracking. So I can imagine folks going back to the old Soviet Era spy tactic of a dead drop.

8/12/2021 – I actually started writing this a couple of days ago.

Since I began writing this, there have been a number of voices raising the alarm. Apple has tried to explain what they’re doing and reassure everyone that they will not ever -absolutely never – double pinky swear, use this technology to do anything but scan for child porn.

I’d like to believe them. But as much as we’ve all been misled, lied to, and told that what we’ve seen with our own eyes didn’t happen, over the past 5 years. I find that I can’t believe Apple any more than I believe anyone else.

Remember when Google’s motto was, “Don’t be evil,” yeah, we all know how that turned out. It looks like Apple is heading down the same path.

As of this morning I’ve turned off automatic updates on all of my devices. I’ve backed up all of my photos to a flat file system OUTSIDE of Apple’s applications. 

If the price of IOS 15, or the new MacOS, is that I have to submit to Apple being able (in theory) to spy on me, then the price is too high.

What I’ve got right now is working just fine.

We can only hope that millions of other people are doing the same thing and that at the next WWDC in Spring, Mr Cook won’t be able to tout those impressive IOS and MacOS adoption numbers. When he’s describing IOS and MacOS numbers that look like Android and Windows update metrics, maybe he’ll get the message.

Hell, I’d love to see every single owner of Apple products turn them all off for a day. You know, maybe Sept 1, 2021. Call it A DAY WITHOUT APPLE.

Call it a protest, let Apple see just how many people are annoyed by this incursion into our privacy. What do you suppose their reaction would be if a couple of million users just signed off for the day?

Who knows? It might get their attention and remind them that Apple’s stock prices are linked to their customer satisfaction.

Now I’m off to consider if terminating Apple One+ is in my best interest or if I’m cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Oh, and even if I’m not uploading my photos to iCloud, my phone has a lot of memory… I can still directly connect my phone to my computer and move those photos to my computer. Sure it’s not as slick or convenient but I can still use my phone as a camera even if I feel it necessary to make my phone dumb as a stone.

As an aside, unlocked 4G flip phones are $35 on Amazon. Just food for thought.

Wait… What? Let me get this straight…

So the cause of the latest reboot of my poor addled brain, was this little gem.

What you’re telling me, is that I can still go into a gay bar in Palm Springs, I can still get my cock sucked, and I can do that while I’m having a drink. (Technically that’s not supposed to happen, but in a crowded bar on a Saturday Night who’s gonna notice that hot young man servicing me as I’m sitting on a bar stool? Yeah… I’ve experienced that.)

Or I can go to a gay bar, pick up someone, go back to their hotel room, and have penetrative unprotected sex…

Apparently I, and the other adults, in a bar are adult enough to make adult choices regarding these health matters…

But to get into that bar I have to show that I’ve been vaccinated, because we’re not adult enough to make an informed choice about COVID????

Hold the damn phone!

There are so many things wrong here I can’t begin to count ’em.

STD’s are no problem according to the city council. HIV is no concern of theirs. Crystal Meth, or whatever the drug de jour is not a problem…

But COVID, with a 98-99% survival rate (dependent on age) and OMG you have to show you’re vaccinated.

To be honest, I’m not surprised. Gay bars in New York City have been doing this bullshit for a while. I guess the more recent mandates in New York have extended to all bars and restaurants.

Palm Springs, You’re dead to me. Like L.A., NY, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland.

I will not show you my vaccination card. I will not allow that invasion of my privacy it’s no more your business than if I’ve had a Hepatitis vaccination, or a flu shot.

You’re not important enough in my life to violate my principals about privacy. I don’t need to spend $10 a drink. I can make my own for a buck. I don’t need to spend $25 for a hamburger. I can make my own. I can remain naked in my own home with a few select friends and have a damn fine time.

I don’t need to spend my gas, time, money, or any effort at all, in your town.

When enough people feel like me, and I pray to God they wake the hell up soon, your local economy will tank and you’ll be begging people to come to visit Just like the mayor of NYC was recently begging business to come back.

Palm Springs you’ve overplayed your hand. How many tourists do you think are going to come to your oasis in the desert? Especially when they have to mask up, surrender their privacy, and comply with your edicts.

Golf courses are just as fine in Florida. Key West is booming for the gay traveler, Florida has pools, hotels, interesting bars, and warm inviting beaches. Miami has a brilliant night life with a distinctly Cuban flair and Texas has some mighty fine golf courses and miles of beaches too.

For me, you were convenient, an adult playground where I could escape for a day or two. Clearly, that time has passed.
