Even Canada?

I was sad to see the news about the riots in Vancouver this morning. It’s a pity that moronic sports fans can make make such a mess.

I really thought that Los Angeles had the lock on stupid violent fans. We have riots over basketball games, and beat visitors to our city damn near to death.

In light of the behavior of the sports fans here in LA, and the obscenely high ticket and concession prices, I’ve been wondering if it would just make sense to tell the sports teams to find somewhere else to be. Not a basketball fan here, I do like Baseball and the occasional football game but I have zero desire to put my personal safety at risk by driving to the heart of LA just to see a game.

Universally it’s pretty much accepted you never visit any city or country that has a team in the soccer playoffs. Trampled in the stands being the least of your worries. The looting., and violence that happens regardless of the outcome of the match says something about the KIND of people that show up at soccer matches.

I suppose I’ll add Vancouver to the list of places NOT to visit during hockey events.  I never imagined Canadians as looters and thugs looking for an excuse to riot and steal.

I guess the shitty elements of society are everywhere.

I hope that the Canadians, make the folks arrested last night clean up the mess. I’ve always believed the TAX payers of any city or country shouldn’t have to foot the bill for the mess caused by a badly behaved fans.

Unfortunately, by the time you get through the court system, the mess has already been cleaned up and the tax dollars have been spent twofold.

I guess that leaves harsh community service penalties. Humm…. 2 years of street sweeping with a broom, or cleaning up public parks by hand sounds about right.

Our Media is out of control

Perhaps I’m a little Grumpy this morning. DSC_0843

Well in truth I’m usually grumpy in the morning. I’ll eventually become human at some point during the day.

In recent history we’ve seen major news organizations take what they’ve read online for granted. Then without vetting the information, or checking any ancillary sources they’ve published as true and correct, completely fictitious stories.

The most recent example of this are the blog posts supposedly from a “Gay Girl in Syria” These posts garnered a lot of media attention. Mainstream and local, news outlets were taken in.

All anyone had to do was check the originating IP addresses on the blog posts or the emails supposedly coming from this poor girl. And the hoax would have been immediately apparent. Eventually someone technologically savvy did precisely that, discovering that the emails originated from an American in Edinburgh.

Faster communication doesn’t necessarily mean better communication.

What someone writes on a blog isn’t necessarily true. ANY Idiot can write a blog, (I’m an Idiot and you’re reading my blog) when did blogs, which are essentially the personal opinions of the writers become valid news sources? At best blogs should be treated as editorial pieces and at worst ignored completely.

Our media need to return to being Journalists instead of talking heads looking for the most salacious, sensational bits of information or misinformation they can find.

They need to actually investigate their stories, and they need to stop relying on purely online resources for their research.

There was something called Journalistic responsibility once, perhaps it’s time to make that concept a priority again.

Just THIS Village idiots opinion…

Reality TV???

Does anyone need this explained to them?

Reality TV isn’t REAL

Dancing with the Stars
American Idol
The Bachelor
Survivor

Are not real.

So people while these shows may be entertaining, don’t behave like these people are anything other than entertainers. When they’re voted off the island or whatever their lives didn’t end.

I’d gotten so tired of hearing a play by play of whatever reality show was on the night before, at work that I couldn’t see straight.

I actually don’t watch these shows because I can’t stand the hype, or teary over dramatized “Thank yous” from contestants because a judge or tribe-mate didn’t flush their sorry asses.

I swear it’s starting to look like the Roman circus. How about this reality? Televised executions! That’s about as real as it gets. Execution by Gladiator pops to mind, at least then it is completely REAL!

Think about the advertisement revenue! The ratings would be crazy especially when the GITMO executions start!

Just remember, I get my cut of the advertisement revenue since I’m one of the creators.

Can we just ignore the Train-wrecks?

Please can we just put these people on ignore?

Lindsay Lohan
Charlie Sheen
Britney Spears
Paris Hilton
Chris Brown
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Mel Gibson

I bear them no malice. I am however sick of seeing their train-wreck lives splattered across my TV and news feeds.

I just don’t care what trouble they got into today.

I do resent that most of these people are handled with kit gloves, especially when the average person would be tossed into jail for any of the offenses that these people have committed.

It’s annoying enough to me, that I spend most of my entertainment time reading, or watching streaming video or DVDs.

I finally understand why so many people I know, have gotten rid of their TVs. I’m not there yet but I get it now.

Between the train wreck celebrities and the so called “Reality TV” there’s very little worth watching.
