{"id":5865,"date":"2015-04-21T10:52:50","date_gmt":"2015-04-21T17:52:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bone-in-the-throat.com\/Blog\/?p=5865"},"modified":"2021-08-26T18:28:29","modified_gmt":"2021-08-27T01:28:29","slug":"ahhhh-thats-nice-you-coulda-told-me-about-it-sooner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bone-in-the-throat.com\/Blog\/2015\/04\/21\/ahhhh-thats-nice-you-coulda-told-me-about-it-sooner\/","title":{"rendered":"Ahhhh That&#8217;s nice&#8230; You could&#8217;a told me about it sooner!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&rsquo;m very fortunate to have some really smart friends.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, those same friends sometimes forget to share really important stuff.<\/p>\n<p>So rather than complain about my friends lack of sharing&#8230; I&rsquo;m going to share with you.<\/p>\n<p>As I&rsquo;ve written recently, ads, popups, and all the tracking crap on the internet has gotten completely out of control. &nbsp;We&rsquo;ve all told our browsers to block ads, popups, and everything else we can.<\/p>\n<p>Blocking popups can sometimes be a problem because some sites actually use pop-ups in the way they were intended to be used, instead of as a means to display an ad for the latest dancing dildo from ronco.<\/p>\n<p>Ads in general aren&rsquo;t a big issue &amp; I generally don&rsquo;t mind seeing them. Until they become so intrusive that I can&rsquo;t read the web page I want to read.<\/p>\n<p>Its become insane, ads for everything I&rsquo;ve EVER looked up are flashing around the perimeter of the page leaving me a 1 inch wide strip of text that I actually want to see.<\/p>\n<p>Apple addresses this in part on iPad, iPhone, &amp; Mac with their &ldquo;reader&rdquo; view. This strips everything out of the page and presents clean easily readable content. The problem is, I&rsquo;ve not found a way to turn &ldquo;reader&rdquo; view on all the time by default. &nbsp;(I&rsquo;ve often thought that would be bliss.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"adblockplus.png\" src=\"https:\/\/bone-in-the-throat.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/adblockplus1.png\" alt=\"Adblockplus\" width=\"299\" height=\"215\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So after yesterday&rsquo;s post about the jpg that was nothing more than a link to a malware infested site.<\/p>\n<p>A friend contacted me this morning and after several exchanges asked if there was a program like ADBlock for the Mac.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;ADBlock? What the hell is ADBlock?&rdquo; I think to myself. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Courier; font-size: 24px;\"><span style=\"color: #4f8f00;\">BING Search ADBLOCK<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/adblockplus.org\">Surf the web without annoying ads<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 34px;\"><strong>D&rsquo;OH!!!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Surprise, surprise surprise! They make a version for Safari!<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Damn straight, I want to download it!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>One simple manageable extension to safari and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bliss<\/span><\/strong>!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It also displays how many ads it&rsquo;s blocked per page.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>REALLY Breitbart, 17 ads on a single page? Do you think you&rsquo;re being a little excessive???<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the application counts the ads&#8230; I don&rsquo;t see them!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Blessings to the folks at Adblock Plus!<\/p>\n<p>To my friends using this application&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Speak up sooner!<\/p>\n<p>You all know I run a very vanilla system but I do take a look at applications and stuff that you suggest&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I might think you don&rsquo;t love me or something, you sadistic bastards!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&rsquo;m very fortunate to have some really smart friends.
